World number one Rafael Nadal released a new wedding photo along with a farewell message for his fans as we all leave 2019 behind and welcome the brand new 2020. “To say goodbye to all of you, I leave this last great memory of 2019 and wish you all the best for 2020!” was Nadal’s comment that accompanied the novel picture.
Rafa and his wife, Maria Francisca “Xisca” Perello, appear holding hands and smiling while petals are flying gently all around them at “La Fortaleza”, the Mallorcan fortress where the wedding took place.
Over 350 guests have attended the wedding that attracted a lot of stars as well. Juan Carlos, who was the king of Spain from 1975 to 2014, Uncle Toni — Nadal’s ex-coach —, Carlos Moya and Francisco Roig were all present during the wedding.
It’s worth remembering that neither one of his biggest rivals in the past decade was on the guestlist. The reason why Djokovic and Federer were not invited is unknown, but Nadal had other ATP colleagues near him. Fernando Verdasco and Feliciano Lopez are just two of the ones who attended.
This New Year’s Eve will be the first spent by Maria and Rafael as a married couple, so it has all the chances to be a very special one, although the two have known each other for no less than 14 years.
