In a video by the Rafa Nadal Academy in which he answered to questions asked by fans, Toni Nadal talked about his nephew Rafael Nadal, the work he did as his nephew's coach, his own experience as a coach, and something that greatly interests the tennis world now that time is catching up with the 19-time Grand Slam champion: is there going to be a 'next Rafa' anytime soon? Has Toni Nadal spotted him yet? If he has, is this player a junior or does he evolve on the ATP Tour? Toni Nadal is famous for two things (among others): getting this kind of questions, and the type of answer that he delivers to them.
"Of course I have not seen the next Rafa on the Tour," he said, and for a good reason, as he added, "Every player is different." But if he had to choose someone who is close enough to be 'the next Rafa', who would he choose? "Maybe the one who is more similar is Dominic Thiem," Toni explained.
"But I don’t know if he can repeat the same results as Rafael. I have seen many good tennis players on the Tour but I have to say again that every player is different." But surely some players from the Next Gen will carry on the Big Three's legacy? "I hope that in the next generation there can be a player like Roger or similar to Roger or similar to Rafael," Toni concluded, "Because when [players] put in this much passion, it’s good for the ATP Tour."
