Rafael Nadal congrats Novak Djokovic after matching his Major record

Last October, Rafael Nadal conquered his 13th Roland Garros crown and joined Roger Federer on 20 Majors. Novak Djokovic was three Major crowns behind his greatest rivals at that moment, and that was hardly an obstacle for him, bouncing back stronger in 2021 and winning all three Majors so far this season.

Thus, the Serb matched Nadal's and Federer's record, standing on the proud 20 Major titles to make the 'Big 3' story more intense than ever. In February, Novak claimed the ninth Australian Open crown and secured the second Roland Garros trophy in June to move one step away from Nadal and Federer.

As was expected, Djokovic was the player to beat at Wimbledon, winning his sixth All England Club trophy and joining his greatest rivals on 20 Majors. Nadal saluted Djokovic on this fantastic feat and said it's great to have three players with the same number of notable titles.

In the final, Novak defeated Matteo Berrettini 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in three hours and 23 minutes for the third straight Wimbledon crown and the sixth in the previous ten editions! Djokovic lost serve twice while he was already in front in the opening two sets, losing the first and doing everything right in the following three to cross the finish line.

The Serb raced into a 5-2 advantage in the opening set before the Italian shifted into a higher gear, saving a set point on serve in the eighth game and pulling the break back in the next one to add more drama.

Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic are now tied on 20 Majors.

With momentum on his side, Berrettini grabbed the tie break 7-4 with two mini-breaks after grueling 70 minutes.

Making a fresh start, Novak raced into a 5-1 lead in the second set and held at love in game ten to level the overall score and become the favorite. Djokovic earned a break at 1-1 in the third set and fended off two break chances to claim the set 6-4 and move closer to the finish line.

The Italian hit a double fault at 3-3 in the fourth set to lose serve, and there was no way back from there for him. At 5-3, Novak seized the third match point to seal the deal and secure the milestone 20th Major title. "Congrats @DjokerNole on this amazing achievement.

20 Grand Slam titles is huge, and it is amazing that we are 3 players tied on this. Well done and, again, congrats to you and your team for this!" Rafael Nadal said.
