WTA RANKINGS 24-04-2017: Serena Williams is the tennis queen once again!

As we said last week, Serena Williams was at the provisional world number 1 spot ahead of Angelique Kerber, and the new WTA rankings list confirmed that. After losing her Stuttgart points, Kerber fell to number 2, 85 points behind Serena who started her 8th reign at the top of the women's tennis rankings. This is the 317th week for Williams as the world number 1, and it came as a perfect gift for her, a few days after she announced that she is pregnant! In the last 12 months, Williams played only 7 events but even that was enough to claim the leading position with 7010 points.
Her campaign at the top may be short-lived, but she proved her class once again, no matter will we see her on the court again or not. Kerber is 900 points clear of Karolina Pliskova in 3rd while Dominika Cibulkova stayed 4th, another 1000 points behind the Czech.
Simona Halep is just behind Cibulkova in 5th and she has a solid lead over Garbine Muguruza who stayed 6th. In fact, except change at the top, everything remained the same as it was 7 days ago in terms of the leading 13 positions, and we had another shift in the Top 20, as Elena Vesnina and Petra Kvitova switched places in 14th and 15th.
There are no new players in the Top 30, as there were no WTA tournaments last week, so we will have to wait at least until next Monday to see further changes in the rankings. Top 20 players:
