Jannik Sinner claims third Challenger crown at home in Ortisei

Ranked outside the top-750 a year ago, super talented Italian Jannir Sinner has made incredible progress, winning 11 ATP matches and three Challenger titles to crack the top-80 at the age of 18! A week after securing the Next Gen Finals crown, Jannik closed the season on a high note at home in Ortisei, conquering the third Challenger title on the fast indoor court to wrap up the year in the best possible way.

Facing the 10th seed Sebastian Ofner in the title match, Jannik delivered a 6-2, 6-4 triumph in 66 minutes, dropping only 12 points behind the serve and suffering only one break from two chances offered to the Austrian. On the other hand, the Italian won almost half of the return points, earning four breaks from 12 chances to seal the deal in straight sets and add another trophy to his tally in the breakthrough season.

Ofner held after deuce in the first game and Sinner did the same in game two to level the score at 1-1. A return winner earned a break for Jannik in the fifth game, hitting three service winners to open a 4-2 gap before securing another break that sent him 5-2 in front.

Serving for the set, Sinner fended off a break chance with a service winner to claim the opener 6-2 after some 26 minutes, with Ofner receiving a medical timeout before the start of set number two. Following another medical timeout, Sebastian pulled the break back at 15 in game four to improve his chances, repelling three break points at 3-3 before Jannik grabbed a break at 4-4 to move in front, sealing the deal with four service winners in game ten for the strongest possible finish of what was a fantastic season for the youngest top-100 player.
