'There will be pro Roger Federer and...', says French ace

The US Open 2021 is now just around the corner, as the matches of the main draw will begin on Monday 30 August in the evocative setting of Flushing Meadows. The big favorite for the win is Novak Djokovic, a true champion in the Slams up to this point of the season.

The number 1 in the world has won all the Majors played in 2021, beating as many members of the Next Gen in the finals. The Serbian veteran will seek to become the second man in the Open Era to achieve the Grand Slam, 52 years after Rod Laver's extraordinary feat.

If he were to triumph in New York, the 34-year-old from Belgrade would rise to 21 Grand Slams, beating his eternal rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for the first time. The Swiss and the Spaniard will miss the New York Grand Slam for the second edition in a row, both knocked out by physical problems.

It will therefore be up to the young people to put a spoke in the wheel for Nole, who will debut on Tuesday against the promising young Rune. In a recent interview with the 'We Love Tennis' portal, Nicolas Mahut spent nice words for Djokovic.

Mahut talks about the Big 3

“Maybe Novak Djokovic is the stronger because he came at a time when Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal were already there," Nicolas Mahut said. "That’s what he managed to do very well because he was so far behind.

Quite frankly I don't think we'll ever be able to decide. Obviously if we look at the pure figures, the record will speak in favor of Novak." The Frenchman heaped praise on all three greats but refused to pick one as the GOAT.

However, he did admit to having a "soft spot" for Rafael Nadal. "In 10-15 years, we will still have this same debate," Mahut said. "There will be pro Federer, pro Nadal and pro Djokovic. What they did on the 3 was absolutely amazing.

Personally, I have a soft spot for Nadal, but I'm not saying he's the greatest. What is incredible is that they played during the same period." As we approach the US Open, we take a look at the players who have received the heaviest fines to date.

At times, the emotions do get the better of the players and it results in some outbursts at times. Players such as Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams, and Daniil Medvedev lead the list at the US Open in this aspect. The US Open 2021 begins on the 30th of August and will end on the 12th of September. This year, superstars like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Serena Williams will not be seen.
