'Chinese fans don’t love anyone more than Roger Federer', says Top 5

The US Open women's final between Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernández had a larger audience on ESPN than the men's clash between Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev, the sports network reported Tuesday. Saturday's broadcast of the women's final peaked at 3.4 million viewers, while the men's final, in which Medvedev won his first Grand Slam, peaked at 2.7 million the next day, ESPN said.

The adolescent girls' title clash, the first grand final of the Open era to feature two non-seeded players, averaged 2.44 million viewers, an increase of 37% over the final of 2020 when Naomi Osaka beat Victoria Azarenka.

A day after Britain's Raducanu, 18, became the first player from qualifying to win a Grand Slam, men's world number one Djokovic took to the Arthur Ashe Stadium court against second-placed Medvedev in the male end. A victory for the Serbian would have made him the first man in 52 years to win the Big Four in the same year and give him a 21st Grand Slam to get ahead of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

The Sunday afternoon finale, which generally faces stiff competition - the start of the NFL season, averaged 2.05 million viewers, 37% more than last year. The 2021 edition of the US Open averaged 881,000 viewers in US prime time.

Federer has won the Shanghai Masters two times

World No.2 Daniil Medvedev emerged as the winner of the US Open 2021. Even though Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal didn’t play in New York, he defeated Novak Djokovic in the finals to clinch his first Grand Slam title.

Surprisingly, he thrashed the Serbian legend in straight sets. “Yeah, I definitely miss the Chinese fans,” began Medvedev. “I mean they are so nice to everybody. Of course, they like Roger, I think the most, we need to say it”.

Medvedev stated that he hopes to play in China next year as the Shanghai Masters got cancelled in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Interestingly, Medvedev is still the defending champion of the Masters 1000 event. “It was special.

It was a full stadium cheering me on and it was really great. I really like Chinese tournaments, especially Shanghai. I hope to comeback there as soon as possible. That’s all I can say,” added the US Open 2021 winner.

In 2017, the Chinese fans witnessed something intriguing from Federer. They saw the Swiss Maestro trying to speak Mandarin and he actually pronounced some words really well.
