Rising Italian star Lorenzo Musetti has revealed that his sporting model is Roger Federer and he wants to be like him in everything. Musetti, 19, is enjoying a breakthrough season on the Tour, having made semifinals in Acapulco and Lyon, as well having made the French Open round-of-16.

"My sporting role model for sure is Roger Federer. I study him and I'm a huge fan of him. I really want to be like him in everything, on and off the court," Musetti said, per Tennis Up To Date. Musetti enjoyed a great start to the season but his form dropped in the second part of the year.

Musetti was on a six-match losing streak before winning his first round match at the US Open. “I have had a bad period in recent months. I separated from my girlfriend. I didn't want to play anymore. So I decided to see a psychologist and now I'm better,” Musetti said in an interview for Gazzetta Dello Sport.

Musetti thought Novak Djokovic deserved the Calendar Grand Slam feat

Musetti was up by two sets against world No. 1 Djokovic in the French Open round-of-16 before retiring in the fifth set. Djokovic was on the verge of winning a record 21st Grand Slam and becoming the first player since 1969 to win all four Grand Slams but he missed out on the chance after losing to Daniil Medvedev in the US Open final.

"I thought he was immortal and instead even the greatest champions are crushed by the pressure. I didn't see the whole match, I admit I slept," Musetti said. "But I saw him very very tense. I was sorry because I cheered for him, he absolutely deserved to complete the Grand Slam, even though Medvedev played an extraordinary tournament.

Nole is a very special person. Very nice, I think he really deserved to complete the Calendar Grand Slam. We talked but not about our game, training with him is always a privilege because you can see his way of working up close. His attention to detail is impressive."
