World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev believes that Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are the three best players in tennis history and he has acknowledged that he feels lucky to have had a chance to play them. Djokovic, Nadal and Federer each own 20 Grand Slams in their collection and Djokovic has also broken the record for most weeks spent as world No.
1. Unfortunately for Nadal and Federer, they have been out for quite some due to injuries. "They are the best three in history, of the last 20 Grand Slams, 17 or 18 have been won by them. Like everything in life, there will come a time when their dominance will pass, but we must bear in mind that both Rafa and Roger have been injured for most of this year.
I feel lucky to have faced them," Medvedev said, per Punto de Break
Medvedev played Djokovic but not Nadal and Federer in 2021
Nadal called it a season in August due to a foot injury and a few days ago he revealed he is following a specific plan and has a clear goal in his recovery.
“I don't know when I will play again. I work every day and follow a specific plan, with very clear goals that I will not reveal what they are, because there are things that I cannot control 100 percent," Nadal said, as quoted on EFE.
Speaking of Nadal and Federer, Toni Nadal recently said he would never imagine those two would end being so successful. “I could never have imagined that they would achieve as much as they did,” Toni said of Nadal and Federer.
“Federer, yes, we saw that he would be one of the best in history — because he does everything well. When I saw that Rafael at [23 or 24 years old] had already [won every] Grand Slam, I started to think that he could win a lot and that he could aspire to be one of the best."
