Former world No. 5 Gonzalez Gonzalez is looking forward to the 2022 season as he is curious to see what will happen with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Gonzalez found it hard when the ATP Tour was suspended for five months last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and he was sad to see players dealing with travelling problems this year.
Tennis fans across the world are curious to see what will happen with Nadal, 35, and 40-year-old Federer. Both Nadal and Federer called it a season in August. “To be without competition for several months last year was tough and now this year, there has still be problems travelling," Gonzalez exclusively told Tennis365.
“Hopefully we can go into next year and have a more normal tennis year because so many exciting things are happening in our sport. “We are waiting to see if Roger can come back, what happens with Rafa and you see Daniil Medvedev winning his first major.
Then I like (Andrey) Rublev and (Jannik) Sinner. They have so much talent and can be successful in the game for many years to come”.
Nadal excited by the comeback process
Nadal admitted that he is going to have doubts but added that he knows the process and he is confident he could still be a big factor if he returns healthy.
"Of course I’m going to have some doubts, but I know the process, I have been there plenty of times,” Nadal continued regarding his recovery. “It’s true that every time as you get older it gets more difficult [to recover] but I am very excited by the process and by the things that I have to do to try to be back.
“So, even with doubts, I am confident that if I am able to play without much pain, I will have my chances”.
