Indian tennis player Yuki Bhambri thinks Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer should all be considered as the GOAT. On Sunday, former world No. 1 Nadal pulled off a stunning comeback in the Australian Open final to defeat world No.
2 Daniil Medvedev 2-6 6-7 (5) 6-4 6-4 7-5. With his latest victory, Nadal collected a record-breaking 21st Grand Slam. Djokovic and Federer now come at the second place on the all-time Grand Slam record list with 20 Grand Slams.
Many now think Nadal has taken the lead in the GOAT race. "All three [Nadal, Djokovic and Federer] are the greatest. I believe there is room for all three of them and in my book, all three have really dominated tennis in their own era and at their own pace," Bhambri said, per Mid-Day.
"I don't think we need to choose when we can have three really great tennis players in the same era. So, for me, all three are the same."
Nadal is now in prime position
Nadal is now the top favorite to win the French Open and push his Grand Slam tally to 22 titles.
Djokovic's future is uncertain due to his reluctance to take the COVID*19 vaccine. On the other side, Federer hasn't played since last year's Wimbledon and there is no timetable for his comeback. “At the end history is about the victory, but the way that you win the match in terms of personal feelings is different,” Nadal said after winning the title.
“The way that I achieved this trophy tonight was just unforgettable, one of the most emotional matches of my tennis career, without a doubt. [It] means a lot to me”. Nadal wasn't given much of a chance to win the Australian Open at the start of the year but then he won the Melbourne Summer Set and Djokovic got deported. Nadal showed a good level tennis throughout the whole Australian Open and deservedly won the title in the end.
