Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas reveals Juan Martin del Potro has always been one of his favorite players along with Roger Federer. Tsitsipas, 23, grew up watching del Potro, who captured his maiden Grand Slam title in 2009.
Del Potro is 10 years older than Tsitsipas and it's not a surprise that the Greek up watching the Argentine. On Saturday, del Potro announced he will likely put an end to his career after playing Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro.
Del Potro fractured his kneecap at the Queen's Club in 2019 and since then has had four surgeries to repair the damage. Del Potro's knee is now better but it is still causing him pain and the Argentine just wants to be able to live pain-free.
Tsitsipas is sad to see del Potro retiring from tennis. "Del Potro has always been my favourite tennis player, along with Federer. I grew up watching him play, and now I’m so sorry to see him announce his retirement in tears.
He has had a huge impact both in my career and in the entire world of tennis," Tsitsipas said of del Potro, per Mario Boccardi.

Tsitsipas survived a scare
Tsitsipas, seeded at No.
1, was on the verge of suffering a shock loss in his Rotterdam opener. Tsitsipas scraped past Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 7-5 6-7 (1) 6-4 to reach the Rotterdam round-of-16. Davidovich Fokina had a serve at 5-4 in the first set but Tsitsipas responded with back-to-back breaks to steal the opener.
Tsitsipas blew an early second set as Davidovich Fokina forced a tie-break, which he won to force a decider. Tsitsipas bounced back in the third set as he broke Davidovich Fokina in the seventh game and served out for the match three games later. Tsitsipas is aiming to win his maiden Rotterdam title. Tsitsipas made the Rotterdam semifinal last year.
