Frances Tiafoe comments on Roger Federer's aura

USA's Frances Tiafoe grew up idolizing Roger Federer and when he met the Swiss he realized that indeed the 20-time Grand Slam champion is a "special person." Tiafoe, 24, has played 40-year-old Federer three times so far in his career.

"I've met a lot of people, celebrities and people who have that recognition, but only Roger Federer's got that aura with him. It's crazy," Tiafoe said on The Functional Tennis Podcast, as quoted on Sportskeeda.

"Some people just have it, man. This dude is special. He's like that. [Whether he is on the court or not on the court]."

Tiafoe pushed Federer hard at the 2017 US Open

All of the three meetings between Tiafoe and Federer came in 2017.

Federer claimed straight-set wins over Tiafoe at the Miami Masters and Basel but needed five sets to beat the American when they met at the US Open. Tiafoe and Federer haven't played much in recent years but the Swiss hasn't played that much.

Federer has spent a lot of his time at home over the last two years. "The last few years have definitely shown me how it could be, how to manage a sort of slower life... because I actually feel very, very busy [nowadays]," Federer said in his interview with Credit Suisse, according to Sportskeeda.

"I wake up earlier than ever because my body doesn't need as much rest as it used to. I actually have more time on my hands when I wake up at 7 o' clock in the morning. I wanna remain curious and really learn, you know....

just working hard, but still enjoy the process. "The transition will be an interesting one, my life will be different, the carpet will be pulled from under my legs sometimes, you know? Maybe I see it easier than it will be, but I'm very confident about it and that's not because I don't want to come back.

We'll see how it will be." Federer is aiming to make a comeback in the second part of the season so Tiafoe might get another chance to play the Swiss.
