American tennis star John Isner was a guest on Tennis Channel's Warm & Fuzzy and there he was asked with which tennis player he would most want to be trapped in an elevator with. Isner, a former world No. 8, named Roger Federer and took the opportunity to call the Swiss as the greatest tennis player of all time.
"Logically, I think it's Federer, he's the GOAT, you know, take his brain a little bit. We actually have a lot in common to talk about, professional wrestling, he's a fan of that, not many people know that," Isner said on Tennis Channel's Warm & Fuzzy, per Sportskeeda.
Isner has two wins against Federer
Isner and Federer have clashed 10 times over the course of their respective careers. Federer won the first two meetings between the two, before Isner defeated the Swiss in a Davis Cup match in 2012.
Federer then won the next three meetings, before Isner stunned the Swiss at the 215 Paris Masters. After losing to Isner in Paris, Federer won their last three meetings. Federer, 40, is aiming to make a comeback at some point during the 2022 season.
"After many month of battling injury, my return to the tour in March, after my first operation, highlighted and energized me to continue my tennis career. I'm grateful for every minute I was able to spend with my fans and tennis family on court.
My experience in Doha illustrated to me that my journey as an elite athlete isn't over yet. The progress I make every day strengthens my belief that I will be healthy and strong enough to return to the tennis court at the highest level," Federer wrote in his annual report.
Federer and Isner have clashed twice at the Laver Cup and the Swiss has signed up to play the event later this year. There is a chance Federer and Isner will meet for the third time at the Laver Cup.
