Holger Rune, 19, admits his attitude is not perfect at times, but he believes he has time to mature and grow, just like Roger Federer did. At the start of his career, Federer struggled with anger on court, but now he is known as one of the most calm and collected players on the Tour.
"If you saw Roger Federer as a youngster, back then he was maybe 40 times worse than I was - and he is one of the most beloved tennis players on the tour, so I think I have plenty of time to get an even better image," Rune told Ekstra Bladet.
Rune: Sometimes I show too much passion
After losing to Casper Ruud in the French Open quarterfinal, Rune gave the Norwegian a cold handshake. When Ruud was asked about it, he said Rune was just mad because he told him on the court there was no need to check every mark.
"I have an extreme passion for this sport, and sometimes I show it too much. But I'm 19, I'm still young, and I work every day to bring out only the positive in my attitude, and that's a process," Rune said. Some think that Rune often crosses the line but the Dane thinks there is nothing wrong in being a little bit different.
"I just see it as differences, and I think that's nice. If all people were the same and thought the same, it would be horrible to live in this world. It's cool that you think what you want, and you like the character you like," Rune said.
"Fortunately, I have many good Danish fans and followers who follow my career and want the best for me, and I really appreciate that." Meanwhile, Rune is set to play in Eastbourne for the first time in his career. In the Eastbourne first round, Rune faces Ryan Peniston.
