20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer has confirmed that he is definitely done with tennis and that he won't be pulling a Tom Brady. Federer, 41, announced his plans to retire from professional tennis after this week's Laver Cup in London.

Brady, 45, retired from the NFL after the 2021 season, only to un-retire 40 days. Federer was asked whether there was a chance of seeing him pull a Brady at some point. "No, no. I am definitely done. I know that," Federer said on American morning TV show Today, per Eurosport.

"I know that, yeah." Last week, Serena Williams didn't close the doors on a potential return to tennis - instead, stating that Brady "set an amazing trend." “Tom Brady started an amazing trend. That’s what I want to say," Williams said on The Tonight Show.

Federer walks away from tennis after three knee surgeries

Federer has had three knee surgeries over the last two and a half years. Federer's goal was to make one final return to tennis at some point this season, but his knee didn't progress as expected.

"As many of you know, the past three years have presented me with challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries. I've worked hard to return to full competitive form. But I also know my body's capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been clear.

I'm 41 years old. I have played more than 1500 matches over 24 years. Tennis has treated me more generously than I ever would have dreamt, and now I must recognize when it is time to end my competitive career. The Laver Cup next week in London will be my final ATP event. I will play more tennis in the future, of course, but just not in Grand Slams or on the tour."
