Roger Federer’s former coach Ivan Ljubicic has landed a new coaching job as he has been hired by the French Tennis Federation (FFT). Ljubicic, who worked with Federer until the Swiss’ retirement, has been hired by the FFT to work on the “Ambition 2024” program.

In his new role, Ljubicic will have the task of helping promising young French players to improve and develop. French male tennis hasn’t had a Grand Slam champion since Yannick Noah won the 1983 French Open title.

On the other side, French women’s tennis hasn’t enjoyed a victorious Grand Slam run since Marion Bartoli won the 2013 Wimbledon title. Ljubicic now joins Nicolas Escude, Paul-Henri Mathieu and Pauline Parmentier on working with the over-14 French talent.

“His approach to tennis, focused on performance, at all times and down to the smallest detail, is driven by this culture of winning that we want to instil in our French hopefuls. All this without ever turning away from the essential human values that the Federation shares," FFT President Gilles Moretton said in a statement.

Ljubicic excited about his new role

“I am very happy to join the French Tennis Federation, one of the federations in the world that devotes the most resources to developing the potential of its young people. France has a very rich, very promising breeding ground, and I put my experience at the service of this new challenge with total commitment and a strong desire to share the values that forge champions," Ljubicic said in his statement.

Ljubicic enjoyed a successful tennis career before he entered the coaching waters. In 2016, Ljubicic joined Federer’s team and helped the Swiss win three Grand Slams. In late September, Federer put an end to his astonishing tennis career.

After Federer played the final match of his career, his stint with Ljubicic officially ended. It remains to be seen if Ljubicic can have success in his new role.
