Daniil Medvedev reveals his only regret regarding matches against Roger Federer

Daniil Medvedev admits he is disappointed he only got to play Roger Federer at the start of his career and not after he became a top-10 player. Medvedev, 26, played against Federer three times - picking up three defeats.

The first meeting between the two came during the 2018 Shanghai Masters, when Federer beat Medvedev in three sets. Medvedev and Federer again met in late 2018, with the Swiss this time claiming a straight-set win in Basel.

Then in early 2019, Federer defeated Medvedev in straight sets at the Miami Masters. A few months later, Medvedev reached his first Grand Slam final at the US Open and became one of the best players in the world. But he never again got a chance to play against Federer.

Medvedev disappointed he didn't get to play Federer again

“Playing against Rafa and Novak is a privilege. I'm disappointed because when I started giving my best and got into the top 10, I couldn't play against Federer again and I already lost to him three times.

I still have the opportunity to play against Rafa and Novak, and every time I have this opportunity, I want to win. I want to try to give the best of myself. I had tough losses against both, but the only Grand Slam I won was against Novak, and that was awesome.

I'm happy to play against them ,” Medvedev said, per We Love Tennis France. After the 2020 Australian Open, Federer announced knee surgery. A few months later, Federer had to undergo another knee surgery. In 2021 March, Federer made his return to tennis.

After appearing in just five tournaments, Federer again started experiencing knee problems and he again went under the knife in 2021 August. Federer's initial goal was to return to tennis at some point during the 2022 season.

But his knee didn't progress as targeted and Federer retired after playing just one doubles match at the Laver Cup.
