Cori Gauff revealed the Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal rivalry was her favorite to watch and also admitted she became emotional watching the viral Federer and Nadal Laver Cup scene. Federer and Nadal created one of the biggest rivalries in all sports and the Swiss wanted to retire at the Laver Cup by playing a doubles match alongside the Spaniard.
"One of the most famous was Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert, although that was before I was born. Another example is, of course, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Roger and Rafa was my favorite rivalry. What they had was incredible.
As a fan watching them, it was amazing to see how they played on the court like they hated each other, but then to see afterwards they could be friends and did amazing things together. That moment at the Laver Cup where they touched hands made me emotional too.
I guess a match-up like that is something that I'd love to be part of in the future," Gauff said, per Sportskeeda.
Gauff loved the Nadal-Federer rivalry, also loved the Federer-Novak Djokovic rivalry
Federer also had an outstanding rivalry with Djokovic.
In the 2019 Wimbledon final, Djokovic saved two championship points on Federer's serve en route to winning the title. "Another one I have seen live is Roger and Novak Djokovic, although when Novak won the Wimbledon title in 2019, it was a heart-wrencher for me because I'm a Roger fan.
I like Novak a lot, but I like Roger maybe 10% more," Gauff revealed. Meanwhile, Gauff is searching for her first Grand Slam title at this year's Australian Open. Last year, Gauff finished as runner-up at the French Open and she also made the US Open quarterfinal.
After some strong Grand Slam results in 2022, Gauff has made it clear her goal for 2023 is to become a Grand Slam champion. Gauff has been progressing well at the Australian Open so far as she has been through to the third round.
