Laver Cup organizers announce plans for Roger Federer one-year retirement anniversary

Roger Federer will be honored at this year's Laver Cup on the first anniversary of his retirement from pro tennis, the event announced. This year, the Laver Cup will be taking place between September 22-24 in Vancouver. On the first day of this year's tournament edition, Federer will make his way onto the court of Rogers Arena in Vancouver.

On the court, Federer will meet Jim Courier - the American tennis legend who famously interviewed the Swiss moments after his career came to an end at the Laver Cup in London last year. Also on Friday 22nd, fans will have a chance to submit their questions for Courier to ask Federer on the court.

Also, two lucky fans at each session will be randomly selected and given an opportunity to sit courtside with Federer.

Federer had 'an amazing' farewell

Last September, Federer teamed up with Nadal for a doubles match in his farewell.

While Federer and Nadal were competing together on the court, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray supported them from the Team Europe bench. After everything was over, Federer thanked everyone for making it a special farewell. “It’s amazing.

I didn't want it to feel lonely out there. It felt lonely for a second when they told me to go out, but to be saying goodbye in a team, I always felt that I was a team player at heart. Singles doesn't really do a whole lot but I've had a team that have traveled with me around the world.

It's been amazing for them. So thanks to everybody who made it work for so many years. Being on this team has been unbelievable, playing all these Laver Cups, and it feels like a celebration. I wanted it to feel like this - and it’s exactly what I hoped for, so thank you.

It was never supposed to be that way. I was just happy to play tennis and spend time with my friends, really. It's been a bit of a perfect journey. I would do it all over again. It’s been so much fun, amazing, I’ve had so many people cheer me on, and you guys here tonight means the world," Federer said after concluding his career at the Laver Cup.
