Roger Federer organized a special meeting with the RF Fan Club and expressed his gratitude to all of his fans who supported him deeply through good and bad. Federer, a former 20-time Grand Slam champion and an absolute tennis icon, retired from pro tennis after the 2022 Laver Cup.
This week, Federer organized a fan day for his fan club on Lake Lucerne. Federer took to Instagram to give an insight into how their meeting went. "Forever grateful for the legendary RF fan club. It was an honor to host a fan day on Lake Lucerne after so many great memories over the years.
I can’t wait to see everyone again soon," Federer captioned his Instagram post.
Federer at peace with his decision and his new life
Since retiring, Federer has been spending lots of time with his family and he has also been spending some time on tennis courts - but in a different role in recent times.
Federer has twin daughters (14) and twin boys (9). Nowadays, Federer is teaching his kids tennis. During this year's Wimbledon, Federer came one day as a special guest and watched a few matches on the Centre Court. During his day at Wimbledon, Federer was asked by his father if it was difficult for him to be at Wimbledon as a spectator and not as a player.
“My dad leaned over and asked me, ‘Wouldn’t you want to be on the court right now instead of just sitting here?’ And I was, ‘Oh, my God, no. I’m so happy sitting here.’ I felt very content and at peace, sitting and not playing.
Because a year before [in 2022], when there was the 100th-year celebration of Centre Court, I felt that I maybe didn’t want to be there. It was important for me to be there, but it was a crushing feeling I had, a twisted feeling I had.
This year, I was very happy to be back there. And the people were happy to see me happy," Federer told the Wall Street Journal.
