Holger Rune has added Roger Federer's former long-time coach Severin Luthi to his team. Luthi, who famously worked with Federer between 2007 and 2022, has also been the team captain for the Swiss Davis Cup team since 2005. After splitting with coach Patrick Mouratoglou, 20-year-old Rune added Boris Becker to his team in October for the remainder of 2023.

Rune's collaboration with Becker went well and the Dane decided to bring back the former six-time Grand Slam champion for 2024. Now, Rune is also adding Luthi to his coaching staff, who will work alongside Becker. "Very Happy to welcome Severin to my team alongside Boris," Rune announced on Instagram.

When Rune hired Becker, he was in pretty bad form and in a very negative streak.

But Becker was able to quickly turn the situation around and help the Dane rediscover his game and form. "I am very excited to continue my partnership with @holgerrune in 2024. We are building a team around Holger to bring out the best version of himself, on and off the court," Becker announced after the ATP Finals.

Rune, who had just one win since Wimbledon when he hired Becker, made the Basel semifinal in their first tournament together and also made the Paris Masters quarterfinal the following week before losing to Novak Djokovic in three sets.

“It’s never easy to reverse a negative spiral like the one I went through, and he helped me do it. I’ve come back from almost nowhere, from a period where I was losing all the time in the first round to a big match like this against Novak, close to my best level.

Two months ago, I would certainly have lost this match in two sets. It just goes to show how far I’ve come," Rune said of Becker's influence after his Paris exit. It remains to be seen if Luthi and Becker can guide Rune to his first Grand Slam and the world No 1 ranking in 2024.
