Tennis - Former World No.1 and one of the most popular players in the world – Roger Federer has finally joined Instagram. The Swiss, who has now been on Facebook and Twitter for quite a while, regularly posts on both social networking sites, giving his fans exclusive access to news about himself, directly from the horse’s mouth.
The 17-time Grand Slam champion, who was late when it came to twitter too, announced his arrival by tweeting about it yesterday. Within 15 hours of the tweet, the 33 year-old already had over 135,000 followers on Instagram – a social networking website owned by Facebook.
On Facebook, the Swiss has 15 million fans while on twitter he has 2.1 million followers. The Swiss tweeted the following message: I launched my @instagram account yesterday. You can catch me here: http://instagram.com/rogerfederer Federer’s unparalleled success has earned him more fans than anyone else in the history of the sport and for his fans and his own sake, the Swiss will be hoping he can mount a serious challenge at the ongoing US Open this year.
In his opening match last night, the Swiss overwhelmed Australia’s Marino Matosevic, racing to a 6-3,6-4,7-6(4) win in just over two hours.
