TV Ratings went higher than ever for the men's Australian Open final won by Roger Federer over Rafael Nadal in five sets after three hours and a half. On Channel Seven, it was the third most-watched tennis match ever and was the most watched one in a decade.
The peak of the broadcast was of 4.4 million, while the average viewers was of 3.6 million. The ratings where the highest ones since 2006 when Federer beat Marcos Baghdatis to win his second title in Melbourne.The Seven's largest ever audience for a men’s final at the Australian Open was achieved the year before, 2005, when the match between Hewitt and Safin was watched by 5.56 million people.
On Eurosport across Europe the final was watched by 16 million people.
