Former Spanish tennis player Juan Carlos Ferrero has been left impressed by Roger Federer's performances in the 2017 tennis season. After a season-ending knee surgery last July, Federer has bounced back in an impressive style this year.
He has claimed three big ATP titles so far in 2017, winning the Australian Open and two Masters 1000 events Indian Wells and Miami. The Swiss, who started the year at number 16 on the ATP list, has progressed to number four in the world and has a 19-1 win/loss record this campaign.
''Being honest, a year ago I thought that Roger Federer could play at a good level one additional season, maybe two,'' Ferrero told IBTimes UK. ''But I was not expecting what he has achieved this season.
It is simply stunning, is simply unbelievable. ''And the secret is that he is enjoying [himself] a lot on the tennis court, that makes the difference, and you can appreciate it in every match he is playing.'' When it comes to ''technical aspects of Federer's improvement,'' Ferrero pointed out the 35-year-old's backhand.
18-time Grand Slam champion Federer is currently having a good rest. He revealed to ESPN after his Miami Open final match that he's planning to play only at Roland Garros during this year's clay-court part of the season.
