ATP SHANGHAI - ENTRY LIST: Federer wants his second title. Nadal to play

ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai, outdoor hard-courts (8-15 October 2017) If you look at the official entry list of this tournament without having followed what happened in the tennis world in the last month, you could say that all the top ten players will be in Shanghai.

However despite they entered, Novak Djokovic, Stan Wawinka and Kei Nishikori won't play as they already called it a season. But why are all of them in the entry list? It's simple: Shanghai is one of the eight mandatory Masters 1000 and in order not to get penalty or "Zero" in the Best 18 results, you can withdraw only after entry list gets out and you can do it if there is a valid reason like injuries.

The absence of these three top players plus possibly Andy Murray and Milos Raonic who are respectively dealing with hip and wrist injuries could help Rafael Nadal on his path to his first Shanghai title. In the Chinese tournament, the Spaniard got his best result in 2009 losing to Nikolay Davydenko, it means the first year for the event as Masters 1000.

Roger Federer will definitely play there. The Swiss player, who won 2014 title beating Gilles Simon in the final and reached the final in 2010 losing to Andy Murray, who also triumphed in 2011 and 2016, featured in a nice advertisement to promote the tournament a month ago.

As we said there won't be the 2012, 2013 and 2015 winner Djokovic. The cut off is very high as World No. 44 Yuichi Sugita is the last player to enter, but expect many withdrawals. Here below full entry list:
