Players who participated in the Laver Cup held in Prague praised the tournament to the skies. Team Europe won the first edition of the Laver Cup 15-9 after Roger Federer defeated Nick Kyrgios in the last singles match. But obviously, the big money for the 12 players who competed (plus two alternates Fernando Verdasco and Thanasi Kokkinakis) played a key role in the event's success.
The six members of Team Europe got a bonus of $250.000 for having won the event, which adds to the appearance fees, or better... qualifying fees of players! The pay checks were not the same for everyone and they were about player's popularity and ranking.
Co-founder Roger Federer and the Spaniard Rafael Nadal earned several million dollars to play the tournament and it was also because of the way they promoted the tournament before it started. It's true, the event lasted for three days, but Federer arrived in Prague on Monday morning, Nadal on Tuesday evening and all the players attended the official presentation of the event on Wednesday in the Czech capital.
