Roger Federer was a great promoter of Western Australia's tourism. The Swiss player visited several important places in the region last week when he played Hopman Cup in Perth.
The State Government, that paid Federer an appearance fee, was satisfied with how it went. The selfie that featured Federer with a quokka, typical animal of WA, is claimed to be seen by 581 million people, which means one person out of seven on the world's internet.
The Swiss tennis champion flew to Rottnest Island on December 28 ahead be of his winning Hopman Cup appearance on a promotional visit for Tourism WA, one of the tournament’s sponsors. Federer shared the pic with quokka on Instagram, where it got 525,000 likes, and on Facebook and Twitter where it was seen by 5.3 million people.
'In any event, having a celebrity with the reach of Roger Federer in Rottnest to promote something truly unique to WA like the quokka will bring massive benefit', they said.
