When commenting Halep's loss to Naomi Osaka on ESPN live on Saturday, he had stated: 'This is painful to watch, this match is a complete embarrassment.' The Romanian won just three games, losing 6-3, 6-0.
In the press conference, the world no. 1 explained the shocking loss: 'I didn't feel the ball at all. I couldn't concentrate. I was out of the game today. I'm not used to playing that late, this tournament I didn't play.
So it was a long day to wait, to play, but we were in the same position. So I just was not ready. I missed a lot, and I didn't play what I had to play.'
