Robin Haase believes that the new Davis Cup format can work even if top players do not play. Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev said they are very unlikely to play the event while Novak Djokovic said he will prioritize ATP World Team Cup.
But speaking to Tennis Magazin Haase said: 'Is Roger Federer the Davis Cup? Does he make the event? I think tennis is more precious than big stars like Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray and maybe organizers get relaxed with their attitude.' Haase also spoke about the strong promotion ATP does towards Next Generation: 'This is a good thing.
We need powerful young players who are put on the market. I would have liked it to happen ten years ago (laughter). But there are also bad sides. I think someone was not well educated. Some players are not friendly. I did not behave in the best way on the court as well, but I have good methods.' Haase also commented on the injuries that many players have suffered: 'It's typical of ATP Tour.
I think the current situation shows very well how difficult is to come back. These top players have the most professional camp and however, there are no guarantees that everything will go well.' ALSO READ: Rafael Nadal: Worse players than David Ferrer won a Grand Slam title
