In an interview to Cadena Ser, Rafael Nadal's uncle Toni was asked if he sees the Big Three players - the Spaniard, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal - dominating in the 2019 season as well. "For what I saw, the first month of the year, I think so", replied Toni referring to the Australian Open Tournament where Djokovic defeated Nadal in a straight-set final.
"We expected more from (Alexander) Zverev who had defeated Federer and Djokovic to win the ATP Finals. He did not do too well in Australia, he failed again. Zverev will be at the top in the end of the year and he will fight with them but I think Djokovic and Rafael will keep being at the top, as well as Federer."
He also commented on the Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre opening in Cancun, Mexico, next week: "The idea of the Rafa Nadal Academy has been to have centers in several places of the world with a minor cost and a lot of advantages.
Manacor is our base, but we always thought of having an expansion because some centers like China, Mexico, Doha had asked to build one there and Rafael said: "No, the first one needs to be here in Manacor in my place"
And from there, you have can have an expansion, like is happening now. The idea, besides promoting the Academy, is to give the same method in all the centers otherwise it would not make sense. A similar principle in all the places.
You have a lot of ways to understand the game. You play football like Real Madrid or Barcelona. What is the better one. I don't know, players are the ones who make the difference. You have your way. And in tennis it's the same.
I always start from one method, and nowadays thanks to technology delivered by Movistar you have a very high technology level."
