Federer on his wife: 'Without Mirka I wouldn't have had so much success'

In a recent interview, Roger Federer commented on the importance of his wife Mirka in his private life and career. The Swiss player, who got married with Mirka in 2009, said: "Friends or my family for me are absolutely at the top of my priorities but Mirka has been incredibly supportive throughout, we got to know each other better at the Sydney Olympics back in 2000, and then started dating right shortly after that and then had kids in 2009 , also got married that year and for me it has been an amazing experience and just seeing that she totally understands the game of tennis because she played herself on tour as well, she was herself top 100 on the WTA Tour and she doesn't actually put me away from the game of tennis and says, Why do you have to go practice again.

She is like, Don't you should practice more or shouldn't you go to bed earlier. She reminds me of the things and so without that I would not have had the success I had and she has seen 80-90 percent of my matches, more than any coach I have ever had and so forth.

So she has been incredibly good for my tennis career but also growing up she has always been there and she has always been wonderful. We talk about matches, we have gone through phases where we talk so much about tennis especially in the beginning of my career, there was even a time where I did not have a coach so I don't want to say she took the coaching role but clearly we talked about it."
