Roger Federer will not play in Brazil this year, says agent

In an interview Roger Federer's agent Tony Godsick commented on Swiss player's South American tour in November. The American said he tried to include Brazil among the stops, but they have not found investors who would be interested to the event.

"We tried to look for someone who wanted to support the event but we did not have success", said Godsick. In 2012 Federer came to Brazil for the first time in Sao Paulo. Over four days, the Basel native faced rivals like the German Tommy Haas, the Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and the local hero Thomaz Bellucci.

Also the likes of Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka, Bob and Mike Bryan as well as Bruno Soares and Marcelo Melo played. Back in the day Gillette was the title sponsor, but they ended their co-operation with the 20-time Grand Slam winner in 2015.

"Roger had an unbelievable visit in Brazil in 2012 and he loves his Brazilian fans who support him so much and even travel over the world to watch him. If this year there is no plan for Brazil I hope he will be back in the country in the future", concluded Godsick.

Federer is set to play several matches in Argentina, Chile, Mexico and maybe Colombia. Some months ago the Brazil's Gustavo Kuerten, a former world No. 1, had said he would have been ready to play with Federer. The Basel native is coming off from his fifth-set Wimbledon final loss to the 16-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic. Federer will be back on Tour in Cincinnati.
