In an interview to L'Equipe the Frenchman Elliot Benchetrit comnented on possibly facing Roger Federer in the US Open second round. Benchetrit will open his campaign against Damir Dzumhur and Federer against Nagal. If Benchetrit and Federer win, they will face each other on Wednesday.
"I am praying to face Federer", said Benchetrit. "In the French Open I said I did not want to play Rafa because losing in straight sets on the Central Court, I did not want to live it. With Roger, I think I can win at least a set by hitting strong serves."
On how it felt to reach the French Open third round in June, Benchetrit added: "Financially, as I've said before, my father is my main sponsor and he's working tirelessly. It's not the main point. But when it comes to the program, it means I will be able to play the quallies of Wimbledon, of the US Open, and the Australian Open next year.
Of course we need to see what will happen with the reform that is going to be undertaken. But before the French Open, I wanted to play ATP tournaments but I couldn't make it. Now I'm going to obtain points. I will play better players.
I will get access to other tournaments and that's the main thing. I want to play better players to make progress. At the end of the day, I will get more money and more points if I can beat better players. It will result in more money and more points. So it's positive."
