Roger Federer happy for Rafael Nadal winning US Open

Roger Federer spoke about his Spanish rival Rafael Nadal being just one Grand Slam title away from the Swiss. The Basel native said: "I may see it in a more relaxed way. I know, I had my moments. The moments, where I broke the records.

Nobody can take those moments away from me, like when I broke Pete Sampras's record in 2009. Everything happening after that, comes as a bonus. If others experience the same moments, I‘m happy for them." On his physical shape, the 38-year-old said: "Preparations are already under way, we are looking who is going to practice together, where are we going to have dinner etc.

We have a good team spirit, although maybe not as loud and crazy like Team World, sometimes I just have to look over and smile. We once have a great team with Rafa, Thiem, Zverev, Fognini, Tsitsipas, Bautista Agut and Borg as a captain.

I‘m fit and ready, bit surprised I felt the back for roughly ten days after US Open, now I have only very small leftovers, mostly in my every day life, but that maybe comes with age. I can play any match this week."

Federer also invited more fans to come to the Palexpo despite all the tickets have been sold for a long time. "You can follow the training sessions on Thursday and experience the Fan Zone on Friday, Saturday and Sunday", he concluded.
