Roger Federer not stressed about Nadal possibly catching him up - Coach

Severin Luthi served as the Switzerland's Davis Cup team captain during the tie against Slovakia away from home. On Monday in an interview to Reuters Luthi was asked if Roger Federer will feel destroyed if Rafael Nadal will catch his 20 Grand Slam titles record.

Luthi said. “No, I don’t think he stresses. He focuses on himself. He has a lot of respect for Rafa and knows what it takes to win that many titles. I don’t see him in any way stressed. He won’t be completely destroyed if Rafa makes the 20.

It’s good for the fans. Especially the ones who thought it was all over when Roger had 16 or 17 and Rafa had 14”. Federer said he knows his tournaments schedule until 2020 Wimbledon. Then afterwards he is uncertain about whether playing the Tokyo Olympic Games in Tokyo which take place not even two weeks after the Wimbledon.“It’s possible but it’s not a goal.

He will leave it open a little bit. I don’t know how it works with (Olympic) wildcards. They used to give them to the small countries, but I think if he said he wanted to play...”. , concluded Luthi who has been Federer's coach for more than a decade.

Luthi will now enjoy some rest as he had no breaks between the US Open and the Davis Cup and he will work with Roger again prior to the Shanghai Masters.
