In an interview Novak Djokovic's mother Diana recalled this year's Wimbledon final where the Serbian player defeated Roger Federer in a five-set final to win his 16th Grand Slam title. Diana said: "When Federer had a match point, I thought, You can do it, Novak!
You did it twice, you can do it again! And it happened again. That match was so tiring, there was so much adrenaline and nerves involved." They also met William and Kate: "It was a honour to meet them and shake their hands, but it was everything sweeter when they congratulated us."
On the criticism around Novak's diet, as he is only vegan, Diana added: "I do not know why people care about the others. He chooses his diet. Stop. I just tell him, Eat what you want and like to. I respect what you eat.
I am the proudest mother in the world. But not just Novak, also Marko and Djorde. Although Novak was more successful. I am very proud about everything he did in his career, but most of all I am proud he is a good man, father, son and husband.
I do not think he could do better." Recalling Novak's birthdate, she said: "I understood straight forward that he was special. When he was born, he shouted so much. It seemed he was older, a three-month son when he was born."
She recalled 2005 Wimbledon: "He played the qualies and I said that if he reached the main draw, we would have come to London. We checked the live score and in the end we went to London."
