Roger Federer: 'I will donate Basel appearance fee to my Foundation'

On Sunday, as quoted by Blick, Roger Federer spoke about his plans for the 2020 season. The Swiss player said: "Olympics and the four Grand Slam tournaments are fixed in his schedule. 'That's why it's clear to me that I'll play in Basel, too.

The contract is extended and I will donate the money back to my foundation", said Federer. On having a statue in his honor, he added: "Very happy with the outcome, I was asked by Tussauds about 15 years ago but I denied, because I was at the beginning of my career, I didn’t feel comfortable, now it‘s fine, and I‘ll probably never look better anyways."

This year Alexander Zverev won the Geneva Open and Laver Cup in Switzerland. "I hope things continue in Basel", said the Hamburg native. "In Geneva, I won the only title of the season. And since I won the crucial point at the Laver Cup, with Roger, Rafa and all the others behind me, something very special.

It was an unbelievable feeling especially having lost many matches this year. Laver Cup was a pure pressure: if I had lost to Milos Raonic, Team Europe would have lost the title for the first time, because of me. I played not only for myself, but even for my teammates, my team and fans."

Are players closer thank to the Laver Cup? "Extremely. Even the captain (Bjorn Borg). We are there for one another, it's very different than in a normal tournament. For example now I have a relationship with Stefanos Tsitsipas, unlike before.

Now we speak, contact each other. I know those situations because I play doubles with my brother Mischa and I am close to Marcelo Melo."
