The FC Liverpool player Xherdan Shaqiri attended Roger Federer's opening round match win over Peter Gojowyczyk at the Basel's Swiss Indoors on Monday. Speaking to Blick about his compatriot, the 20-time Grand Slam winner, Shaqiri said: "He is in a good mood.
He is here at home in Basel, so he runs well and is winning. It went very fast and I am happy for him. It was too fast but that's tennis. He did very well. He is not the youngest anymore and he still plays at the highest level.
Here I feel like home. I live just 15 minutes away from here. It's always nice to be back. I grew up here. It's also nice to see the new stadium. That's new for me. The stadium hits me a lot." Asked if he plays tennis, Shaqiri replied: "Yes when I am on holidays, and I am not that bad either.
But I am definitely a fan of football. Which is my favorite shot? Probably forehand, it's strong!" Meanwhile in Vienna Matteo Berrettini spoke about the ankle issue he suffered during his three-set win over Kyle Edmund.
"My ankle was lucky, in the beginning I was a bit scared and then it went better. It's difficult to understand what's happening", he said speaking of his success, "it's happening so quickly, I try to enjoy every match.
Playing the ATP Finals in London would be an unbelievable achievement, but I would still be very proud about my season if I did not make it."
