Borna Coric: 'Win over Roger Federer was memorable'

Borna Coric is set to once again join a world class field at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle 2020. The Croatian player always feels comfortable in the German event where he conquered the title beating the Swiss Roger Federer in a three-set final in 2018.

“It was a memorable win for me, a special victory", said Coric. Federer analyzed his straight-set win over Radu Albot on Wednesday: “I hit the balls on the return like a magnet, you’re still scared that the game can turn, but my feeling was unbelievable, with everything he tried he got caught by me.

The moments when everything works, you have to appreciate, because they are rare. It’s so much the better that it worked in Basel”. On facing Stan Wawrinka or Frances Tiafoe next, Federer concluded: "I hope to play Stan on Friday, I never thought he would be able to do so well on fast surfaces, he’s a tennis legend and would love to play against him here in Basel, even if it’s always it’s hard against him."

Meanwhile the Russian coach Viktor Yanchuk spoke about the new Davis Cup: "It's difficult to make predictions one month before the tournament. Tennis is a sport where anything can change over a few days. I really want Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev to play this event.

It will be our biggest hope. It's clear that Medvedev is the team leader but he will try his best at the ATP Finals and he is unlikely to be healthy in Spain."
