Roger Federer: 'It could be over any moment. I am at the end of my career'

Roger Federer, speaking to SRF, admitted he is getting older although it doesn't look this way. After his tenth Basel title, the Basel native said: "It's not a problem that the season is almost over. It's more of a problem that I'm at the end of my career.

I feel like everything happened so fast. That makes me a bit sad sometimes. But I know I'm gonna be ok when the moment comes. I know it could be over quickly: An injury, something happens to someone in my family", he said referring, for example, to his parents' health.

"That's why I need to have the perspective, the distance. I know it could be over any moment." On his week overall in Basel, Federer said: “I started off very strong and very well this week. I was able to really keep a very solid level and sometimes even a fantastic level.

[It was] never really in doubt. If only it was always like that, but it’s not. So I take this week as a good one for sure”. Asked if he will be back to retain the title in 2020, Federer replied: "I could not be more happy.

I feel very good, fresh. Hope the body is gonna be fine, the mind too. It's been good times now." Federer made his first appearance in Basel as a player in 1998.
