Grigor Dimitrov set to replace Roger Federer at 2020 ATP Cup

Bulgaria is set to replace Switzerland at the ATP Cup in Sydney in January 2020. Roger Federer withdrew due to family reasons and his country will not play. Grigor Dimitrov and a female player from Bulgaria is likely to join.

Dimitrov spoke about his straight-set win over Christian Garin in the Paris Masters quarter-finals: “[In the second set] I wanted to go for a little bit more on my shots. There were quite a few taxing games, physically, and I was trying to rush it a little bit… He felt that.

He saw that and started exploring different angles and a different game against me. But I saw it also right away, so he helped me to stay on track and I was close to losing the second set. But I kept pretty solid. I was focused throughout that [5-4] game and the other two.

That was a great end." Organizers confirmed that the exhibition match featuring Federer and Alexander Zverev will take place despite the controversies going on in the country. "Until now, 20 days before the exhibition, it will definitely be done", they said.

"You have to consider the situation and be careful about what happens on a daily basis to know what's happening with the security in order to organize such an event."
