Juan Martin del Potro is sad for not playing an exhibition match he was supposed to with Roger Federer in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday. The 2009 US Open winner still wanted to attend the event and he spoke to Tyc Sports: "Obviously seeing this show from outside is a pain because I wanted to be playing there, imagine, come back to Argentina against Federer after my injury was what I could have asked from this scenario but the knee did not answer, I still need a bit more time", admitted the 31-year-old.
"The truth that Zverev comes and replaces me is great for tennis. When I had to pull out of Stockholm, one of the tournaments on my schedule, I did not struggle doing it as much as I did now. I was making an incredible effort to prepare for this match.
People make a big effort to see Roger. If I were not at 100 percent or if Roger had to drop the rhyhm a bit because of my state of health I think it was not right. Zverev is world No. 7, future No. 1 by far, I think the tennis show will be perfect."
Del Potro has a very good relationship with the Swiss: "Any word for Federer is little, but for me he is unique. He is the number one on and off the court. I did not get to know better person and sportsman than him."
