WTA lucky not to have the Federers, Nadal and Djokovic - Goerges

In an interview with Eurosport, Julia Goerges spoke about Alexander Zverev's potential. Goerges, who is training hard ahead of the new season, said: "I follow his matches time by time if it fits my plan. Alex has been consistently on the top 10 for years, he has the potential to become the number one.

However, it's not just for his potential, but also for many other things that he needs to take in order to reach the top." Goerges also spoke about what could happen on the WTA Tour next year: "I think there will be many surprises even if I do not know if they can be described like this.

Over the last few years, we saw how balanced the competition is and how many Grand Slam winners you had. I find absolutely interesting that we do not have the Big Three (Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal) like on the men's side, but a big amount of potential favorites."

On next year's Tokyo Olympic Games, Goerges concluded: "This event has always been a goal for me. I was in London in 2012, a really special experience. But there is still a long way to go, a lot can happen and you have to qualify as first.

But representing your country at the Olympics is always nice." Goerges finished the year ranked 28th in the world. She won the ASB Classic in Auckland in January and reached two other finals - in Birmingham (lost to Ash Barty) and in Luxembourg (lost to Jelena Ostapenko).
