Lorenzo Sonego: 'French Open match vs Roger Federer one my season's highlights'

In an interview to SuperTennis TV the Italian player Lorenzo Sonego spoke about the new Davis Cup where he played for Italy last month in Madrid. Sonego said: "I am honored to be there although we did not really like the new format.

The environment is something that makes you grow and so I hope to keep being able to be part of it and give my help." Sonego also reflected on his season where he conquered his maiden career-title in Antalya. "On grass, I did not expect to achieve an important result, like winning the Antalya Open.

I was coming from two first-round losses so I did not really have high hopes. But reaching the Monte Carlo quarter-finals and playing well against Roger Federer in Paris boosted my confidence", said Sonego who wishes he can qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin that will take place from 2021 to 2025.

On the success of the Italian tennis, the former player Diego Nargiso said: "Those are all guys who represent Italy on a human point of view from a human point of view and not just technique-wise. As a kid, I was cheering on Adriano Panatta and Italy's Davis Cup team.

I still feel proud of them." The Miami Open Tournament Director James Blake wrote about next year's event that will take place in March 2020. The American former player wrote: "These two guys @rogerfederer and @JohnIsner make my job easier and more fun. Looking forward to 2020 @MiamiOpen and having these two great champions and sportsmen back."
