Luiz Carvalho is satisfied with the field he has built for the 2020 Rio Open. The Brazilian Tournament Director said: "We have got two top ten players like Dominic Thiem and Matteo Berrettini. They are the guys who will be dominating tennis after Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal retire.
Thiem is not a youngster anymore but I still put him in the mix. Berrettini also for the first time in Rio. it's exciting. Then Diego Schwartzman who is a former champion and always a big hit in Rio because there are a lot of Argentineans during this time and Brazil loves him.
Borna Coric is a new player too, for the first time he plays in South America. I really like watching him play, he is such a fighter, he is a great connection with the crowd. We are probably gonna announce two more good players in the next weeks."
On Nadal's highlights in Rio, Carvalho added: "The first year he played, he faced Pablo Andujar in the quarter-finals and the way he fouth back to win the match and the title was crazy as well as crowd's reaction.
He is such a good fighter. He also played an unbelievable Pablo Cuevas in a match that finished at past 3:00 AM. He won that match after turning it around in an incredible way. It was very cool to have such an icon, also together with the legend Gustavo Kuerten.
That was emotional and we will cherish those moments for the rest of our lives. He also had fun off the court enjoying Rio's Carnival."
