Roger Federer and Nick Kyrgios found out about the almost 5 million Australian dollars ($3,500,000) raised so far by the Rally For Relief campaign moments after they finished their exhibition match — ended 7-6 for Federer.
Their reactions matched the weight of the donations. “An incredible number, so much needed. Hope it keeps going. Like you guys said, the Australian Open is just around the corner and I hope much more money will come together, but this was definitely an incredible kick-off”.
Roger said. “We needed an event. We don’t do this every year, but if we have to, the players will be here. I know that Tennis Australia and Australian Open will be here… and you guys too (referring to fans).
Coming to the stadium tonight has also helped. Everybody can look forward to donate. You come together for other people and I think that’s an inspiration for many other countries around the world watching this right now” he continued.
Similarly to the Swiss legend, Nick Kyrgios was dazed by the almost 5 million Australian dollars raised and expressed his gratitude for everyone involved in the process. “It’s amazing. I’ve had goosebumps when you said that number (4.8 million dollars).
Everyone came together tonight. It’s just an amazing feeling. I’m just glad that we have this support. I really appreciate it and I’m sure that everyone involved, everyone losing their homes, losing their loved ones, they are going to appreciate that”. said the Australian tennis player.
