Next Gen players have a lot to learn from Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. This is the opinion of Thierry Ascione, former World number 81 and current coach of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Richard Gasquet. The Frenchman came out defeated by both matches with the 20-time Slam champion, while he managed to beat the Spaniard in 2004 in Chennai.
"For me, when I beat Rafa he was really young," Ascione told Express Sport. "He was top 50 I think and he won the French Open the next year. I think we are so lucky to get these three on tour. They gave to tennis unbelievable matches.
I think they are really different to each other. Every tennis fan is going to find something he really likes in these three. That's why it is tough to say I prefer Rafa, Roger or Djokovic. Everyone would like to have a little bit of these three because they are really different." As most of Europe is placed in lockdown Ascione is focusing his energy on his role as head of performance at Team Vitality.
"Of course, it is the same. It is just about emotions and communication and all that stuff," he said. "It is the same. It is always the same. When you need to do something everything in your head needs to be clear and clean. Practically the same process.
The way they grown up is not the same. Esports people it was their passion, they played a lot and saw that they were really good and they became really professional. In tennis for example it is coming earlier than esports and that's why sometimes we have to break something in the esport to rebuild it in the traditional sport way.
Honestly tennis is just emotion and esports is the same. Your head has to be fixed. That's why I went to esports, I saw a lot of similarities."
