Roger Federer says he believes he will play with an On tennis shoe in the future

In the interview, the 20-time Grand Slam champion says, "The thing about performance shoes: it’s got to fit absolutely perfect[ly].

I do believe that probably one day I will play with an On tennis shoe. That’s got to be the goal, I believe. If it’s still going to be while I’m still active or not? We’ll have to see if we’re going to make it in time”.

Federer and the company launched the first sneaker for the Swiss company which is named “The Roger,” which is aimed for everyday wear rather than professional sports on Monday. The company says that the first drop of "The Roger" will be limited to 1,000 pairs and can be bought via a lottery on the brand's website or in store.

Federer says he is confident the first pair will sell out but he is looking at the longer-term prospects of the shoe. "I know the first pairs that drop will go — we know that. The question is going to be, ‘Where are we going to be in a year from now? We’re going to try and work as hard as possible to make it as cool of a product for people to wear.

For me, I measure success when I see people wearing it”. Speaking about his collaboration with the company, Federer says, "It’s a Swiss company that wants to grow worldwide. They’ve already taken big strides, and maybe I can help them with this final push."

Roger Federer is a 20-time Grand Slam champion, the most in tennis history by any male tennis player. He is currently ranked No. 4 in the world and has not played since undergoing surgery on his right knee in February. He underwent a second procedure last month for the same injury and says he is planning to be back for the 2021 season.
