Roger Federer: 'We make sure we get all together at the table'

If on the one hand training sessions play a fundamental role in the preparation of an athlete, there is no doubt that diet is another factor to consider for the correct development of a sportsman. Since tennis is an individual sport, players must find themselves in the best conditions in order to compete at the highest levels.

This also applies to a legend of the caliber of Roger Federer. At the age of 39, the former World number 1 needs to maintain a balanced and nutritious diet. The 20-time Grand Slam champion, who only competed in the Australian Open this year, was appreciated for the video with Carola and Vittoria, the two Italian girls who wrote a video that went viral during the lockdown.

Barilla, who is one of Federer's sponsors, took advantage of this to create an advertisement as innovative as it was exciting.

Federer on his love for pasta

“The secret to a healthy and balanced diet stays all in moderation.

Whatever you do, you have to do it with moderation, but you also need to enjoy food,” said Roger Federer. “Pasta has always worked very well for me before matches," Federer said. "I’ve eaten pasta almost before every game, and I’ve played almost 1500 matches now, and I still love it like the first day.

It is important to stay healthy" - he added. “We really take a big effort and make sure we get all together at the table maybe once or twice a day, definitely several times a week. I think it’s important to talk about our day, about what has happened, and not to just sit down, eat quickly and run away," Federer said.

"For me it is part of a nice unwinding of the day or even a great way to see each other and catch up, because our lives are all very busy" - Federer concluded. Every single tennis fan is going to miss Roger at the 2020 US Open and they will be looking to see him play in 2021.

The good news is that the Swiss Maestro has made no indication that he is retiring. And he is probably not retiring for just one reason – the race to become the GOAT of tennis. He is the one holding it right now but his rivals – Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are getting very close.

In fact, Rafa is just a Slam away from equaling Roger’s record. Federer definitely wants to extend his lead over his rivals and that is why he is taking his time to recover well. Hopefully, he will some Grand Slams in 2021 just like he did back in 2017.
